"I've Gotta Be Me" é un tema intrascendente dun musical de Broadway chamado "Golden Rainbow" pero "Bein´ Natural Bein´ Me" nos presenta a un Sammy Davies desmelenado tentando adaptarse aos novos tempos. A canción aparecería ao ano seguinte formando parte do seu elepé "The Goin's Great"

LOOKING GLASS - Jimmy Loves Mary Anne / Wooly Eyes (CBS, 1974)


Looking Glass son lembrados sobre todo por dúas estupendas cancións  que publicaron nos primeiros setentas, "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)" e "Jimmy Loves Mary Anne". Como esta última me gusta especialmente, aquí van as adaptacións do tema que tiña pola casa: a que fixo Josie Cotton en "From The Hip", o seu segundo Lp, a do grupo de Chicago Boom Hank que colaboraban con este tema nun dos volumes publicados polo selo Pravda en homenaxe a aqueles discos baratos que K-Tel publicaba a principios de década e por último a dos florentinos Homo Sapiens, aparecida nun compilatorio de grupos italianos titulado "L'ora dell'amore".

CYRIL DAVIES - Country Line Special / Chicago Calling (Pye, 1963)

The Cyril Davies R&B All-Stars were, after the Rolling Stones, the best British blues band of the early '60s. This regrettably short-lived blues band was assembled by harpist/singer Cyril Davies (1932-1964) in 1963, following his exit from Blues Incorporated. The group's original lineup, featuring Davies on harp and vocals, had Bernie Watson on guitar, Nicky Hopkins on piano, Ricky Brown playing bass, and Carlo Little on the drums -- all four had been recruited from the ranks of Screaming Lord Sutch's Savages. This quintet recorded an initial single, "Country Line Special," driven by Davies' wailing harp and vocals, that was sufficiently authentic to get it placed alongside the British releases of songs by Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and the rest of the Chess Record luminaries in England's Pye Records catalog. 

Watson and Brown went their separate ways during the summer of 1963, and Jeff Bradford and Cliff Barton came in on guitar and bass, respectively, with Long John Baldry -- another Blues Incorporated alumnus -- occasionally sitting in on vocals. Their second single, "Preachin' the Blues," was released in September to modest but promising success, and for a time it looked like Davies and company were going to be a major force on the burgeoning R&B scene. But Davies collapsed late in 1963, and was diagnosed as suffering from acute leukemia; he died in January of 1964. All Music Guide

"Penny Arcade" foi o único elepé publicado pola cantautora californiana Penny Nichols, e que en liñas xerais é bastante aburrido aínda que inclúe esta sorpresa con certo toque sico na que colaboran membros de The Peanut Butter Conspiracy. A versión do sinxelo e case un minuto máis curta que a do elepé.

KAREN WYMAN - Karen Wyman (Decca, 1970)

RICK NELSON - Intakes (Epic, 1977)

Rick Nelson and the Stone Canyon Band's last album for MCA, "Windfall", was released in January 1974. A couple singles, "Try (Try to Fall in Love)", and "Rock and Roll Lady", followed in 1975, and then Nelson parted ways with MCA. Epic Records signed him in 1976, and his first album for the label, "Intakes", came out in the fall of '77. Epic suggested Keith Olsen (producer of Fleetwood Mac) to work with Rick on the album, but Nelson ended up producing most the tracks himself. The sound on "Intakes" is more pop/rock and less country rock than "Windfall". Tom Brumley's steel guitar is featured on only half the tracks, and drummer Ty Grimes has been replaced by Steve Duncan. There's also studio help from session men Jai Winding (keyboards) and Roger Bush (slap bass). Jay De Witt White is still on bass, and contributes two songs, "Five Minutes More', a upbeat pop/rocker, and the soul-ish "Change Your Mind". Dennis Larden continues on lead guitar, and has two folky acoustic songs on the album, "Wings" and "One By One" (which should have been a single - Rick's senstive vocals, excellent band harmonies, and Brumley's pedal steel solo make this one a standout). Rick himself wrote two songs on the album, "Something You Can't Buy" (reportedly inspired by his wife's spendthrift ways), and the piano ballad "It's Another Day", about a couple drifting apart. There's also excellent material from outside sources - Baker Knight's straight ahead rocker "I Wanna Move with You" (with one of Larden's best electric guitar solos), the catchy, hook laden "You Can't Dance" (Duncan's drumming shines here), Gallager and Lyle's countryish "Stay Young" (with another excellent Tom Brumley solo), and the old r&b hit "Gimme a Little Sign" (with Rick on lead guitar). Rick is at his best vocally on this album, and the harmonies by the Stone Canyon Band are strong. The album sounds like a strong commercial effort, yet it failed to dent the charts for even a few weeks. How could it have missed? Did Epic just throw it on the market with no promotion? Or was radio just too resistant to a veteran artist making a strong contemporary statement? It's never come out on cd, although seven of the tracks are on "Stay Young: The Epic Recordings". I recommend buying the original album. Get yourself a needle and turntable, and listen to some of Rick Nelson at his best. Ron

"MAXIMILIANO", aquí dispongo de la sensación absoluta de volar sin tiempo medido en las canciones, estas fluyen naturalmente sin interrupciones de producción, nace la música en total libertad y retorna luego de mucho tiempo humildemente decidido y fuerte B.B.MUÑOZ, sin la pesada mochila de la fama ganada dignamente, sin máscaras, dado que asumo mi pasado testimonial representando una época de intensos cambios en las costumbres del mundo, que como siempre se ve reflejada en la maravillosa MULTIDIMENSIONALIDAD DE LA MUSICA. España se abre ante mis ojos con sus colores, su historia y su maravillosa geografia, como queda plasmado en la portada de este L.P.en el complejo montañoso de NAVACERRADA a 40 km de MADRID. Civilizacion coincide con la primera crisis mundial del petroleo, que cambió la economía de la TIERRA tan profundamente que llegó hasta nuestros dias de hoy.
